Nepal has been blessed with numerous fast flowing rivers that gush down from the Himalayas cutting through mountains and carving deep gorges to finally reach the vast plains. Many of these rivers are ideal for rafting and some are considered the best in the world by professional rafters from the west. Rafting is one of the most popular adventure sports in Nepal.
Rafting at Trishuli
The river Trishuli which is relatively close to Kathmandu is one of the popular rivers for rafting and is ideal for beginners. The Trisuli can be rafted for 1 to 3 days, 15 - 60 km. Most people do the classic two day trip. The return journey to Kathmandu is 5 hours, to Pokhara is approximately 4 hours and to Chitwan is approximately 1 hour. The river is open to rafting through the year, unlike other rivers where trips are not feasible during the monsoon.
Rafting at Seti
Ideal for those looking for a short two-day trip in a remote location, the river Seti is suitable for family outing. The river takes rafters through lovely forested regions and over plenty of easy rapids. The warm and beautiful Seti River passes through stunning jungle scenery, green hills and valleys. It is an excellent river for bird-watchers and those interested in the abundance of nature found on this trip. This normally gentle river has plenty of small and straightforward rapids. During the monsoon months the intensity of the rapids increases and attracts a radically different set of rafters.
